Joseph Norman, an American artist born in 1957, created the stunning painting “The Last Mediterranean Hummingbird” in Spain in the late 1980s as part of his “Barcelona Suite” series. This romantic piece evokes Old World nostalgia, featuring ruins, a distant horizon, and an ethereal aerial perspective. Known for his paintings, drawings, and lithographs, Norman is a Professor of Art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia and has served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Johnson & Wales University. With experience living and working in Canada, Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, and Cuba, his works are held in prominent collections such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
